Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about RFID wristbands, hotel key cards, NFC technology, and ordering for Caribbean hospitality.
An RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) wristband contains a small chip and antenna embedded in a wristband material like silicone, fabric, or wood. When brought near an RFID reader — such as a hotel door lock or payment terminal — the reader emits a radio signal that powers the chip, which then transmits its unique identifier. This happens in milliseconds and requires no battery in the wristband.
NFC (Near Field Communication) is a subset of RFID technology that operates at 13.56 MHz with a very short range (typically under 10 cm). All NFC devices are RFID, but not all RFID is NFC. Hotel key cards and wristbands typically use NFC-range RFID (13.56 MHz) for security, while UHF RFID (860-960 MHz) is used for longer-range applications like luggage tracking.
Compatibility depends on your lock system manufacturer. ASSA ABLOY VingCard systems typically use MIFARE Classic 1K or MIFARE DESFire EV2/EV3. Dormakaba (Saflok) locks support MIFARE Classic and DESFire. SALTO systems work with MIFARE Classic, DESFire, and LEGIC. Onity locks use their proprietary encoding. We test every batch against your specific lock system before shipping.
Minimum order quantities vary by product type. For standard PVC hotel key cards, our MOQ is typically 500 units. For custom-printed wristbands, MOQs start at 100-500 units depending on the material (silicone, fabric, wood). NFC business cards start at 50 units. For large resort deployments, we offer volume discounts starting at 5,000+ units. Contact us for specific quantities and pricing.
Standard production time is 7-14 business days depending on the product and customization level. Shipping to Caribbean islands typically adds 5-10 business days via air freight or 15-25 business days via ocean freight. We recommend ordering 4-6 weeks before your needed date. Rush orders with expedited 3-5 day production are available for an additional fee.
Absolutely. We offer full-color printing (CMYK), UV printing, laser engraving (for wood and metal), embossing/debossing (for silicone), and sublimation printing (for fabric). Our design team can work from your brand guidelines or create custom artwork. We provide digital proofs for approval before production begins, and physical samples are available upon request.
Our wooden RFID products use a sealed waterproof coating that protects the wood veneer and embedded RFID chip from water damage. They can withstand rain, swimming pool exposure, and typical resort conditions. However, prolonged submersion (e.g., diving) is not recommended. For high-water-exposure environments like water parks, we recommend our silicone wristbands which are fully waterproof and rated IP68.
We offer several sustainable alternatives: FSC-certified wooden key cards and wristbands from responsibly managed forests; recycled PVC cards made from 80% post-consumer recycled content; organic cotton fabric wristbands; bio-composite BioBoard cards; and recycled silicone wristbands. All our eco-friendly products meet the same RFID performance standards as conventional materials.
Modern RFID hotel systems using MIFARE DESFire EV2/EV3 chips employ AES-128 encryption, mutual authentication, and secure messaging — the same level of security used in contactless payment cards. Older MIFARE Classic chips have known vulnerabilities, which is why we recommend upgrading to DESFire for new deployments. Each card or wristband has a unique, non-clonable identifier programmed at the factory.
Yes. RFID wristbands with MIFARE DESFire EV2/EV3 chips can integrate with resort Property Management Systems (PMS) like Oracle OPERA, Infor HMS, Agilysys, and Shiji. Guests tap their wristband at restaurants, bars, shops, and spa facilities, with charges posted directly to their room folio. This eliminates the need for guests to carry cash, credit cards, or room keys separately.
Yes, we ship to all Caribbean island nations and territories including the Bahamas, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Cayman Islands, USVI, BVI, Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten, Antigua, St. Lucia, Grenada, and more. We handle customs documentation and can arrange door-to-door delivery. Shipping rates are calculated based on weight, dimensions, and destination.
MIFARE DESFire EV3 is the latest generation of NXP's high-security RFID chip. It offers AES-128 encryption, secure dynamic messaging (SDM), transaction MAC counters, and compatibility with mobile phone NFC. Compared to MIFARE Classic, DESFire EV3 is cryptographically unbreakable and supports multiple applications on a single chip — meaning one wristband can handle room access, pool gates, restaurant charges, and spa bookings simultaneously.
Yes. We provide sample kits that include various wristband and card materials, chip types, and print finishes so you can evaluate the quality and test compatibility with your lock systems. Standard sample kits are available for a small fee which is credited toward your first bulk order. Custom-branded samples with your logo are also available with a slightly longer lead time.
RFID wristbands for events integrate with platforms like Glownet, Intellitix, PlayPass, and custom systems. Each wristband is encoded with a unique ID that links to an attendee profile in the cloud. The system supports cashless payments, access zone management (VIP areas, backstage), real-time attendance analytics, and social media activations. We pre-encode wristbands at our facility or provide encoding equipment for on-site registration.
For 13.56 MHz (HF/NFC) products — which includes all our hotel key cards, wristbands, and NFC business cards — the typical read range is 1-10 cm depending on the reader, chip, and antenna design. This short range is intentional for security; you need to physically tap or hold the card near the reader. For UHF RFID applications (luggage tracking, inventory), read ranges can extend to 5-12 meters.
Products using NTAG213, NTAG215, NTAG216, and MIFARE DESFire EV2/EV3 chips are compatible with NFC-enabled smartphones (both iPhone and Android). This means guests can tap their phone on an NFC business card to save contact info, or hotel staff can use NFC phones to verify and manage wristband credentials. MIFARE Classic chips do NOT support standard phone NFC reading.
Lost cards or wristbands can be instantly deactivated in your hotel's PMS or lock management software. A new card/wristband is then encoded with the guest's credentials and activated. The lost item becomes useless — it cannot access any doors or charge any purchases. This is a significant security advantage over traditional metal keys, where lock changes are expensive and time-consuming.
Yes. If you are reordering or switching suppliers, we can replicate your existing card or wristband design. Send us your artwork files (PDF, AI, or high-resolution images) and specify the chip type and encoding requirements. We produce a digital proof and physical sample for your approval before running the full production batch. This ensures perfect color matching, registration, and overall quality.
